Kapa Haka festival

Kapa Haka Festival

The guitar strums and Matiria ( our leader ) Starts the song.
Every year each Gisborne school has a team of people who sing for Kapa Haka.

If you are from a different country than me and you don't know what Kapa Haka actually is, it's something New Zealand does to keep our Māori culture alive. We sing Māori songs about New Zealand legends and Old story's. Most girls also have these items called Poi. Poi are plastic balls filled with foam with string attached to it. This is so that the girls can swing the poi in skilled ways. The boy's do something called Haka. There are different song's for Haka. I think it's to show that the boys are Māori warriors.

On the real day I was too nervous. I mucked up a lot even though that was the day I should've done my best. Well, I tried my best, but I ended up forgetting some actions because I had days off school  before the performance. I still did good and it was great day. I think my favourite part of the day was probably the part when our whole school sang one of our school songs.

I ended up having an awesome time and I am proud of my effort.

Pic n mix cards

Pic n mix cards

This term Room 1 and I  learned how to play Pic n mix cards to practice our times table's.

Set the game up:

1.You need a buddy and a set of cards.

2.Take out the picture cards so you only have the number cards left.

3.Chose the dealer.

HOW TO PLAY:

1.The dealer holds down the cards face down so no one can see the cards.

2.Then select the times tables you want to learn, maybe 5's,9's,10's or 3's. For example if your doing 3's and there's a 7 you shout 21 before the other person can.

3. When there's no more cards left you count how much cards you have. The person with the most cards is the winner.

I definetly recommend this game if your learning your times tables.

What is the difference between Simile and Metaphor?

What is the difference between Simile and Metaphor?

Did you know this term Room one learnt what a simile is?

Yes, this term Room one learnt what the difference between simile and metaphor is.

A simile is kind of like a metaphor, where you compare something with something else. The difference with a simile and a metaphor is that similes have the word “as” or “like” and a metaphor doesn't have “as” or “like” in them.

For example these are metaphors:

Her heart is gold

He is a pig

They are best friends

These are similes:

Her heart is like gold

He eats like a pig

They are like best friends.

Now do you see the difference?

The thing I've noticed is that the difference is just by two words.

Skipping

skipping

WHIP! OUCH Lily can you help here? I think that I whipped my foot.

Now that's what hurts in skipping.

This term Room 1 is learning how to skip. We are trying to become fit to

enjoy running for cross country.

This is how we do it:

We all have a buddy and my buddy is called Lily. We get a white board

and a skipping rope. Lily and I normally use a yellow handle but

unfortunately we have lost tons of yellow handles so we have to use a

green handle rope sometimes. Green handles are short and lily and I are

too tall.

How do I feel about skipping?:

I think skipping is very fun. At the start of the term I did not know

how to skip but now I have great progress in skipping.

Now that I know to skip I think I will finally enjoy running and I will

continue to become more fit.
