Enviro Action day T2 W5

 Enviro Action day

Wednesday was one of my best days of the week. It was another Enviro action day. But this time,  for some reason, it was better than normal action days because instead of sitting on the mat the whole day (and also getting so tired you can't concentrate) we went to the BEACH. Even better, we didn't have the whole school with us so it wasn't so busy.

Why did we go to the beach? Well, we went to the beach in groups. My group had Amber, Bridie and of course, me. We were picking up rubbish to help the environment.  You know what was great? There wasn't even much GROSS plastic. You know what was even better? There wasn't even much plastic at all. Unfortunately, there was still some waste and mostly glass. That's a bad thing because it's probably the most dangerous.

When we arrived back at school we counted how much waste we had found. That's when I realized how well we went. Our group found 204 pieces of glass. Although I was tired, I was still excited! We could win ( I also forgot to tell you that we could win a prize if you found more waste than everyone else)!

At the end of the day I was SO TIRED. We didn't win, turns out some people found way more waste than us, but I was happy with what we found.  At least our beach is cleaner than it was before.

Solving problems with your chromebooks

This week is the first week of the term. Every term we have something new to learn on the class hub and this term we have Digi digging. Digi digging is all about learning digital curriculum .We get a new subject every week and this week we had a Kawa of care poster to make. We had to have a buddy and the choice to use Canva, google slides and google docs. My buddy was Esther and we used Canva .I bet you can tell that the writing above is our poster. It sure is. And I hope you can or have learned a thing or two about it.

14 Smooth grooves

14 Smooth Grooves
"Any suggestions for the week well the year sixes are gone?"
That's when it all started. We had thought of making smoothies.

When we reached week seven, this Monday, the moment the year sixes
left, we all rushed into the classroom to choose smoothie buddies. I was with Aria.
As you probably know, my name is Dune...
We wanted to make a sweet smoothie, so we called our smoothie The sweet DNA. .
Do you get it? D'n'A?
The other groups were called Berry Breeze, Purple Sunrise, Fruit Punch and Paradise
Fruit smoothie.

Tuesday was our organizing day. The day we made our recipes, drew pictures of what we
predicted it would look like and agreed what we were gonna bring for our smoothies from home.

Wednesday was our action day, the day we made our drinks.
First we gathered all our ingredients and materials and put them on a plate like this;

Then we headed to the room in the middle of the class and filmed a video.

Do you like it?

Back To School 2021

 Back To School 2021

By Dune

As School starts in 2021 we have already done quite a lot.

We did a walk your pepeha week, which we still haven't finished, we still need to go to our Marae. We are going to get that done today, but luckily we don't have to walk all the way there because it's in town.

Here in New Zealand most people or schools have there own pepeha. A Pepeha includes a Marae, ( a cultural house ) A maunga, ( A hill or mountain ) and an awa ( a river ).

Here are some photos of what we did-

22. 02. 2021

We also have done some art.

We wrote 2021 in chunky numbers and then inside of the numbers we drew what we predicted the year would look like. We also drew stuff about ourselves, what we like and what we do. This is what it looks like-

At the very start of the term we also coloured in a mandala and wrote our goals on it. We also drew our family and friends. Photo-

In writing we have been doing persuasive writing

For math, we have done IXL math or khan academy.

Thats how our year has gone so far. Later on in the year I can share more of my learning.

Fridays Earthquake

 Fridays Earthquake

Mum wakes me up and says; "Get out of bed Dune, there's an earthquake!" I can't believe I sleeped though that. We headed up the hill as fast as we could...

On Friday very early in the morning, there was a strong earthquake that nearly lead us into a tsunami. I was too panicky to go to school, because where I learn, its right next to the beach.

... When we felt safe, we drove back home and fell back to sleep.

It was quite a boring day. We spent most of our time watching the news to see what we could do, and heard that a small tsunami hit Tokomaru bay. Here is an image to prove it:

We then, went up the hill again and watched over the ocean to see if we were safe...

About an hour later all the warnings were canceled and we could go back to the beach. I didn't feel scared anymore, I felt relieved.

Kapa Haka festival

Kapa Haka Festival

The guitar strums and Matiria ( our leader ) Starts the song.
Every year each Gisborne school has a team of people who sing for Kapa Haka.

If you are from a different country than me and you don't know what Kapa Haka actually is, it's something New Zealand does to keep our Māori culture alive. We sing Māori songs about New Zealand legends and Old story's. Most girls also have these items called Poi. Poi are plastic balls filled with foam with string attached to it. This is so that the girls can swing the poi in skilled ways. The boy's do something called Haka. There are different song's for Haka. I think it's to show that the boys are Māori warriors.

On the real day I was too nervous. I mucked up a lot even though that was the day I should've done my best. Well, I tried my best, but I ended up forgetting some actions because I had days off school  before the performance. I still did good and it was great day. I think my favourite part of the day was probably the part when our whole school sang one of our school songs.

I ended up having an awesome time and I am proud of my effort.

Pic n mix cards

Pic n mix cards

This term Room 1 and I  learned how to play Pic n mix cards to practice our times table's.

Set the game up:

1.You need a buddy and a set of cards.

2.Take out the picture cards so you only have the number cards left.

3.Chose the dealer.

HOW TO PLAY:

1.The dealer holds down the cards face down so no one can see the cards.

2.Then select the times tables you want to learn, maybe 5's,9's,10's or 3's. For example if your doing 3's and there's a 7 you shout 21 before the other person can.

3. When there's no more cards left you count how much cards you have. The person with the most cards is the winner.

I definetly recommend this game if your learning your times tables.
