Lockdown Two

A week ago now was the first day of NZ lockdown 2021. I have just started online school, which hasn't been as boring as thought.

I really did not not want a lockdown to happen now, because last week was my birthday and we were about to go for a family trip to Rotorua, but covid interrupted us again. When I say again I'm saying that this has happened before. The lockdown last year made us postpone our trip to Europe, to see our family.

Otherwise lockdown two has been going great, we have had the task from school to create a video of us running to make a cross country video, (because cross country got canceled too) which so far would be quite a laugh. Every day for school, we do one subject a day, which means we have to day two calls. On Mondays we do a whole class call, to ask for any help for the week, Monday also has workshop calls and a question time at the end of the day. So Monday has three calls a day, but every other day has a workshop call and a sharing time. You can only have one workshop call because in our class your in one group for every subject. No matter what, we have to do question time at 2pm everyday.

Hoping that if your in Lockdown, your safe, your having fun, and that this global virus will end soon.

Quickwrites

Every week we have to do two quickwrites. But in my opinion I really like the quickwrite I did last week. I hope you can agree with me.

Confusion

It started out, just like any normal day. Got out of bed same time, same breakfast, ect. But today at school I saw one of the staff knock on the door. I was in  the middle of a workshop when she said; "Can Dune be excused from class?"

I walked out of the class clueless. When I arrived at the office, and for some reason I saw my parents."Why are you here?I swear I heard you say you had work. Both of you. You even said you'd pick me up late!" Dad replied to me saying; "Well some plans changed a bit."

They thanked Margot before we started walking to the car. I noticed Perle sitting in the car and that the luggedes were in the boot .I went into the car confused ...

The end

I let my friends see and tons of them were sitting there wondering "Whats gonna come next?" Next week I might share to you part two.

Hockey 2021

Hockey

This year for sports, I am playing hockey again. Last year, I played soccer but I got a little bit bored, even though we didn't loose one round.

At times I get sick of hockey, because you have your stick down most of the game and your back starts to hurt. At least each game is only 30 minutes long. Also its good because its not a Saturday sport, so its not as busy as soccer and netball.

Tonight's game is the last game until next year. I might get a bit bored without much sports because then all I'll have to do after school is trampolining. I'm still gonna do it next year. I really recommend hockey.

In a game of hockey, there is a goal keeper who stops the other team from scoring, then on the left and the right of the goal, we have defenders, who make sure the ball doesn't even get close to the goal. Then, we have the mid field, who passes the ball to one of the three strikers and they are the one's who score.

Term Three Inquiry

Term Three Inquiry

As it being the first week of term three, we have a new inquiry. Last term our inquiry was Korara (Fairy penguin).

This term we have three different subjects for our inquiry. The first subject is the Olympics.
For the start of this subject we have gotten given booklets from Kiwi Kids news, that have all kinds of questions and facts about the Olympics. Some parts are about the ancient Olympics and in some parts you have to write all you know about a kiwi athlete. We have three weeks to complete the booklet.

This week I have to get a task that one of my workshops gave me, which is to write a report about Japan who is hosting the Olympics this year. I am including the flag, the capital, the president ect.

The second subject is about New Zealander Jean Batten. She is the first woman to fly a plane across the south atlantic. We will be doing research about until the last few weeks of this term when we will have a whole day of school showing what we found out about her.

The last inquiry subject we're doing is all about enviro, where we will probably be heading over to Hamanatua stream. Last year we tried to weed all the fennel there, and there was so much that it was way to hard. Some more fennel grew over the holidays, and so the council decided to take it all out. For parts of this term we might be taking out extra fennel, and planting more plants.

We will also be having an action day, we are going to Mangaone Station to plant the wetland and we will be walking up a hill and planting the 200 trees we won last term.

The name of our inquiry subjects all up will be called Going for Gold. I'm really excited for this busy term.

T2 Strand

Strand-Math

One of my favourite subjects at school is strand because it's very different and it's really fun!

When the term started, we were doing the nets of a 3D shape and for a few weeks we were creating a wall full of the cuboids , cubes and triangular prisms ect. I liked it because we could learn and see if we needed more parts. We all enjoyed strand.

Once we had put all the shapes on the wall, we started to learn about reading a calendar. I liked this because it helps us with seeing when an event is, but I have a feeling it was a bit too easy.

This week and last week we started to learn about patterns. we used beads and paint and tried to make questions out of the patterns. and the end we were allowed to connect each end to make a bracelet.  I never wear mine, but I have to say, it was really fun to make. It was also fun to figure out questions, and answer them.

I think you should try strand too. It's a fun experience.

My learning week three

Little Blue Kоrоrā

This term our inquiry is the Little blue Kororā; The smallest penguin in the world.

Last week we had the task to create a slide which included the life cycle of the Little blue. We had the choice to do a slide for each period of life, or just create a quick, life cycle like this:
But, I chose to take the long way.

Enviro Action day T2 W5

 Enviro Action day

Wednesday was one of my best days of the week. It was another Enviro action day. But this time,  for some reason, it was better than normal action days because instead of sitting on the mat the whole day (and also getting so tired you can't concentrate) we went to the BEACH. Even better, we didn't have the whole school with us so it wasn't so busy.

Why did we go to the beach? Well, we went to the beach in groups. My group had Amber, Bridie and of course, me. We were picking up rubbish to help the environment.  You know what was great? There wasn't even much GROSS plastic. You know what was even better? There wasn't even much plastic at all. Unfortunately, there was still some waste and mostly glass. That's a bad thing because it's probably the most dangerous.

When we arrived back at school we counted how much waste we had found. That's when I realized how well we went. Our group found 204 pieces of glass. Although I was tired, I was still excited! We could win ( I also forgot to tell you that we could win a prize if you found more waste than everyone else)!

At the end of the day I was SO TIRED. We didn't win, turns out some people found way more waste than us, but I was happy with what we found.  At least our beach is cleaner than it was before.
